POLICIES 9.1 Working with children
the infant trust does not undertake work with individual children but
does work with and support partner organisations that have direct
dealings with children. In order to ensure the greatest safety for
children
the infant trust aims to ensure that all its partner
organisations adhere to what is considered to be best practice and,
where ever possible, is compliant with best UK practice as well as
following the guidelines of best practice in the country of work 9.2 Trustees’ expenses Trustees of the infant trust are not paid for their role as trustee. the infant trust may pay for reasonable expenses for travel to and from meetings and for travel abroad connected with the infant trust work - these expenses must be sanctioned by the Board. 9.3 Internet research Whilst undertaking work and/or research on behalf of the infant trust it is sometimes necessary for officers or trustees of the charity to search and check the internet for issues related to abuse, rape and sexual assault of infants and children. It is possible that, whilst in a legitimate search for information to further the cause and work of the charity, the said officers or trustees may stumble across internet sites containing illegal and/or immoral pictures or data.Any trustee or officer of the infant trust must:
9.4 Insurance All trustees and officers of the infant trust are personally responsible for having their own adequate insurance for possessions or medical cover when on infant trust business. the infant trust is not liable for any injury or loss, nor will it pay for insurance premiums. 9.5 Risk assessments An assessment of risk to the infant trust, trustee[s] or officer[s] of the trust will be undertaken prior to each individual visit to South Africa. All risks will be minimised wherever possible and each traveller must ensure that they are appropriately vaccinated and carry sufficient insurance to cover all known eventualities. the infant trust will pay for vaccination costs related to such travel. 9.6 Funding projects Projects will only be funded according to our criteria although the infant trust reserves the right to commit small amounts [<£500] in single grants 9.7 Recruiting trustees New trustees will be recruited when the Board of the infant trust deems it necessary. All new trustees will be recruited through a transparent process that involves advertisement, interview by or meeting with at least 2 Board members; the receipt of a rejection or formal offer to join the Board will be the final outcome. No expenses incurred in the recruitment process by a putative candidate can be reclaimed 9.8 Review of policies Policies will be reviewed annually to make any changes or additions in the light of new legislation, expansion of the work of the infant trust or expansion/changes in activity or developments in a ‘new’ country.
